These Books are RUBBISH

Fun, explorative workshop creating a book filled with sustainable creative pages. Let’s follow the steps on this page for the activity.
Gather items and let’s get spinning.

︎Introduction
Let’s make a start: to start off the activity we’ll make a page for your book. This is a quick fun way to get excited about today and get straight into making.

︎A Favourite Item Drawing

Step 1: Pick a favourite item of yours (hopefully you would have been asked by your teacher to do so) if not, just pick an item that you like that belongs to you and is with you now.  The item may be anything; your favourite pen, or even a bottle.

Step 2: Gather the things you will need for making this:
︎ your favourite item
︎ one piece of scrap paper
︎ a ruler
︎a pair of scissors
︎ something to draw with (pens, colour pencils)

Step 3: Take the scrap paper and with your ruler measure an 8cm by 8cm square and then cut out the square.

Step 4: Set a timer for 2:00 minutes and draw the favourite item on the paper.

Step 5: Flip the page and write down three adjectives that describe the item.
You've made your first page. Now keep this safe as we'll be adding this to the book you’re going to make next!

︎Next activity: T Book

Things required to make this:
︎ A4 scrap paper
︎Scissors
︎Pencil or pen

How to make:

Step 1: Have the paper in a landscape mode and fold the paper into half lengthwise.

Step 2: Open it up and fold the paper in half from side to side. Fold it again into half in the same direction.

Step 3: Open the paper completely.

Step 4: Take a pencil and find the intersection of folded lines on the left and the right and mark them with a dot or cross. Then draw a line from one point to the other across the creased line.

Step 5: Spot the center intersection and draw a line from that point towards you or the bottom of the paper.
We have a line that looks like the letter T and hence why we call this book the T book.

Step 6: Use a scissors to cut along the line. The best way to do this would be to cut the last drawn line first and then the rest of the lines.

Step 7: Fold the two flaps away from each other. Fold the paper in half making sure the flaps are facing outside. Fold the rest of the paper; one side in and one side out, one at a time.

… and that’s it! You’re done making your book!

︎Next Activity: Snake Books!
We call it the snake as it’s shaped like one!

Things required to make this book:
- An A4 scrap paper
- A pair of scissors
- A pencil or pen

How to make:

Step 1: Keep the paper landscape and fold the paper lengthwise 1/3 of the way from the bottom and from the top. It doesn’t have to be perfect, just try your best. Make sure to crease the edges as much as possible.

Step 2: Open it up completely and fold the paper in half. From one side to the other. Fold that in half again in the same direction.

Step 3: Open up the paper completely.

Step 4: Take a pencil and spot the left top most intersection of the fold and draw a cross. Do the same on right bottom most intersection of the folds. Now draw a long line from the cross to the right edge of the paper along the fold. Now turn the paper and do the same from the other cross. Use the scissors to cut along the lines you’ve just drawn.

Step 5: Once that’s done, start folding the pages along the crease lines. If one fold is towards the paper then the next fold is away. Carry this on until you’re done. And now you have a snake book ready.

It’s a good idea to number the pages as some of the pages are upside down when you open it up for any reason to stick/draw anything.

… and that’s it. You’re done making your book!

︎ Assembly
You are now ready for the last step! To assemble and give the book any last touches. You may use glue stick or tape to do this! Also feel free to use colours to fill in gaps or leave the gaps blank if the children would like to.
